Azotobacter vinelandiiAzotobacter เป็นจีนัสของแบคทีเรียที่เคลื่อนที่ได้ สร้างซิสต์ที่มีผนังหนา และผลิตสารเมือกจำนวนมาก ใช้ออกซิเจน อยู่อย่างเป็นอิสระในดิน มีความสำคัญในการตรึงไนโตรเจน ใช้เป็นส่วนประกอบของปุ๋ยชีวภาพ แบคทีเรียตัวแรกในจีนัสนี้ที่ค้นพบคือ Azotobacter chroococcum, ถูกค้นพบเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2444 โดยนักจุลชีววิทยาชาวดัตช์ Martinus Beijerinck Azotobacter เป็นแบคทีเรียแกรมลบ พบในดินที่เป็นกลางหรือเป็นด่าง[1][2] ในน้ำและอยู่กับพืชบางชนิด[3][4]
