อนุกรมวิธานและศัพทมูลวิทยา ของ ชานจา

ในภาษาจีนกลาง เรียก "ชานจา" (山楂, shānzhā) แปลตามตัวว่า "ฮอว์ธอร์นภูเขา" หรือเรียก "ต้าหงกั่ว" (大红果, dà hóng guǒ) ซึ่งแปลว่า "ผลไม้สีแดงขนาดใหญ่" ในภาษาแต้จิ๋วเรียก "ซัวจา[3]" จึงมักนิยมเรียก ชานจา นัยว่าเป็นชื่อในภาษาจีนกลาง (แทนที่จะควรเป็น ชานจา) ส่วนคำว่า "เซียงจา" มักใช้เป็นทั้งชื่อผลไม้และขนมหวานกินเล่น

ชื่ออื่นในภาษาอังกฤษ ได้แก่ mountain hawthorn[4], Chinese haw[5], Chinese hawberry[6][7]
